# Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)

Last updated: 2026-03-15

## Primary Personas

### 1. Solo WordPress Publisher

| Attribute | Value |
|-----------|-------|
| **Title** | Blogger, Affiliate Marketer, Niche Site Owner |
| **Company type** | Solo operator or micro-business (1 person) |
| **Traffic range** | 10k–100k monthly organic sessions |
| **Team size** | 1 (solo) |
| **Sites managed** | 1–3 WordPress sites |
| **Current tools** | Google Search Console (manual), Yoast/RankMath, maybe Ahrefs Lite or Ubersuggest free |
| **Budget** | $0–$49/mo for SEO tooling |
| **Target tier** | Free → Pro |

**Pain points:**
- Traffic dropped after a Google update and they can't diagnose why
- Manually checking GSC is time-consuming and hard to interpret
- Can't afford enterprise SEO tools ($99+/mo)
- No easy way to prove which content fixes actually worked
- AI content tools require separate subscriptions and API keys

**Buying triggers:**
- Google algorithm update causes visible traffic loss
- Reaching a revenue milestone and ready to invest in growth
- Seeing a competitor recover traffic and wanting the same result
- Free tier limits hit (wants more sites or drafts)

**Disqualifiers:**
- No Google Search Console access (can't connect data source)
- Site has <1k monthly sessions (insufficient data for meaningful analysis)
- Expects backlink building or rank tracking features

### 2. SEO Agency

| Attribute | Value |
|-----------|-------|
| **Title** | Agency Owner, SEO Director, Account Manager |
| **Company type** | Digital marketing or SEO agency (3–10 people) |
| **Traffic range** | Manages clients with 50k–500k+ monthly organic each |
| **Team size** | 3–10 |
| **Sites managed** | 5–50 client WordPress sites |
| **Current tools** | Ahrefs/Semrush (full), Surfer SEO or Clearscope, Google Looker Studio, spreadsheets for reporting |
| **Budget** | $99–$500/mo for SEO tooling per team |
| **Target tier** | Team → Enterprise |

**Pain points:**
- Client reporting is manual and time-consuming (hours per client per month)
- Can't efficiently diagnose traffic drops across many client sites at scale
- ROI proof is anecdotal — no systematic before/after tracking
- Content velocity bottleneck: clients want more content faster
- Team members need different access levels per client

**Buying triggers:**
- Losing a client who asked "what did my SEO investment actually do?"
- Scaling from 5 to 15+ clients and current workflow doesn't scale
- Client requests automated reporting or dashboards
- Team expansion — needs multi-seat access with role-based permissions

**Disqualifiers:**
- Manages only non-WordPress sites (Shopify, Wix, custom CMS)
- Primarily a link-building agency with no content optimization focus
- Needs white-label reporting without attribution (requires Enterprise)

---

### 3. In-House SEO Team

| Attribute | Value |
|-----------|-------|
| **Title** | SEO Manager, Content Marketing Lead, Digital Marketing Manager |
| **Company type** | Mid-size company (50–500 employees) with 1–5 WordPress properties |
| **Traffic range** | 100k–1M+ monthly organic across properties |
| **Team size** | 2–5 SEO/content team members |
| **Sites managed** | 1–5 corporate WordPress sites (blog, knowledge base, product pages) |
| **Current tools** | Enterprise Ahrefs or Semrush, Google Analytics, internal dashboards, content calendar tools |
| **Budget** | $200–$1000/mo (approved by marketing leadership) |
| **Target tier** | Team |

**Pain points:**
- Reports to CMO/VP Marketing who demands ROI attribution for SEO spend
- Content production is slow — needs AI to accelerate without sacrificing quality
- Google updates cause board-level visibility when traffic drops
- Coordinating content across multiple contributors is chaotic
- Existing enterprise tools are expensive and mostly unused features

**Buying triggers:**
- Board or leadership asks for ROI proof on content marketing investment
- Major Google update hits corporate properties
- Competitor outranks them on key commercial queries
- Budget review — looking for tools that replace 2–3 separate subscriptions

**Disqualifiers:**
- Non-WordPress CMS (Drupal, Sitecore, custom React frontend)
- Procurement process requires SOC 2 Type II certification (we're not there yet)
- Needs rank tracking as primary feature (not our focus)

## Anti-Personas (Who RankWiz Is NOT For)

### 1. Non-WordPress Users
Sites built on Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, custom React frontends, or other CMS platforms. RankWiz's WordPress plugin integration, content publishing, and snapshot features require WordPress REST API access. These users will hit a dead end at the WP connection step.

### 2. Backlink-Focused SEO Teams
Teams whose primary SEO strategy is link building, outreach, and domain authority growth. RankWiz focuses on content optimization, traffic diagnosis, and on-page SEO. We don't track backlinks, outreach campaigns, or referring domains. These users need Ahrefs, Semrush, or Majestic.

### 3. Shopify-Only E-commerce Stores
Shopify stores without a WordPress content layer. Even though e-commerce SEO is valuable, RankWiz requires WordPress for content management and publishing. Shopify-only stores can't use our AI draft publishing or content snapshot features.

### 4. Sites Without Google Search Console Access
Users who haven't set up GSC, can't verify site ownership, or use a platform that blocks GSC integration. RankWiz's entire analysis engine depends on real GSC data — without it, there's nothing to analyze.
